This free event for clergy only will be held the day before the Annual Courage Conference.  To register for either the Clergy Day alone OR for the Clergy Day and the Annual Courage Conference, please click here and select attendee type: Clergy Track.  After filling in your basic information, you’ll be given the opportunity to select either Clergy Track alone or Clergy Track PLUS Conference.  For more information on the full Courage Conference, please click here.

Clergy Day Schedule

    • 8:30 am Registration
    • 9:00 am Welcome and Introduction
    • 9:15-10:15 am Christian Anthropology
      A Courage priest will discuss the teaching of the Catholic Church on identity, sexual ethics, and homosexuality. The discussion will include the terminology that the Church uses, as well as how to present the teaching in a clear, welcoming and compassionate way.
    • 10:15-10:30 am Break
    • 10:30-11:40 am “I Thirst”: What We Need from You
      A Courage member who is a counselor with experience in helping those with depression, anxiety and other problems will speak about his living with same-sex attractions (SSA) and coming to embrace the Catholic Church and the Gospel call to holiness and chastity. He will also offer practical suggestions, based on his own life as well as his professional education and experience, about how clergy can reach out and offer support to men and women experiencing SSA.
    • 11:40 am -12:00 pm Questions and Answers
    • 12:00-1:15 pm Lunch will be provided for all participants.
    • 1:15-2:30 pm Transgender Surgery and Christian Anthropology
      A board-certified plastic surgeon and Catholic deacon will present a discussion of the “transgender” phenomenon, its historic roots, the scientific evidence for the existence of such a condition, and the moral and ethical problems of the use of medicine and surgery in the treatment of this condition.
    • 2:30-2:50 pm Questions and Answers
    • 2:50-3:10 pm Break
    • 3:10-4:30 pm Providing Authentic Pastoral Care
      A Courage priest will discuss the expectations of the Church and practical advice on how to accompany people who experience SSA in their own lives or in their families. Topics will include preaching, parish life, and one-on-one interactions in confession, pastoral counseling and spiritual direction. We will also discuss the Goals and the approach of the Courage and EnCourage apostolates.
    • 4:30-5:00 pm Questions and Answers for all of the day’s presenters
    • 5:00 pm Conclusion
