The Catholic University of America

Established in 1887, the Catholic University of America (CUA) is the only institution of higher education founded by the Bishops of the United States.

The Edward J. Pryzbyla University Center—“The Pryz”—houses a full-service conference center and dining facility. The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, located on the campus of CUA, is the largest Roman Catholic church in North America, and contains expressions of Marian devotion from the many ethnic communities, religious orders, and Catholic organizations that make up the fabric of our nation.

CUA is located in the heart of the District of Columbia, and is easily accessible from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and from Amtrak’s Union Station via the Washington Metro. The campus is a short walk from the Brookland/CUA station on the Metro Red Line.

Celebrating Our Senior Chaplains

Since the first Courage members gathered with Father John F. Harvey, OSFS, in 1980, the role of the priest chaplain has always been essential to the success of the Courage and EnCourage apostolates. The priests who serve in this role (often with the dedicated collaboration of deacons and lay leaders) bring many personal and professional gifts to bear in their ministry, especially the gift of their spiritual fatherhood. Their presence signifies the pastoral welcome that the universal and local Church wish to extend to all those who reach out to Courage and EnCourage for accompaniment.

During this year’s conference, we will honor the contributions of chaplains who have been part of the work of Courage and EnCourage since its earliest days. Their dedicated service is an inspiration to us, and lays a firm foundation for our work in the future.

Conclusion

Please note the following:

This program is designed for priests and deacons presently involved in pastoral ministry. Seminarians, novices and others in formation may also attend. Please note your present assignment or stage of formation when you register.

There is no charge for this one-day program. Registration is required, however. You may register on-line here.

At this registration page you will have the option to register for overnight housing on campus for Tuesday, July 19, and/or Wednesday, July 20. You may also register for the entire Courage conference, which will meet from Thursday, July 21, through Sunday, July 24, at the same location. If you register for the Clergy Day and the Conference you will keep the same room throughout the duration of your stay.

The celebration of Holy Mass is not scheduled as a part of the Clergy Day. However, those staying overnight on campus may make arrangements to celebrate or concelebrate Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, which is located on the campus of the Catholic University of America. Priests and deacons will need to present a Letter of Good Standing (celebret) from their (arch)diocese or Religious community.

Please address any questions about the Clergy Study Day to Father Philip Bochanski, Associate Director of Courage International, at frbochanski@couragerc.org or (203) 803-1564, extension 7013.
